Journal Quilt

I participated in the 2007 Journal Quilt exhibit which debuted at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. Here's my entry into the exhibit.

I experimented with how to incorporate a digital photograph without using the photo "as is". I played with Photoshop Elements to alter the photograph. It's amazing what a deadline will do for me...... I had Photoshop Elements loaded onto my computer, but had not taken any time to play with it and see what it could do. I had great fun making it. It made me start thinking about other ways that I can use my photographs, other than in my travel journals. These images were printed directly onto canvas, in case you were wondering.

I had so much fun making this piece that I've already finished another one using the same photograph, and have a 3rd piece (with a different photo) ready to quilt and bind later this week. I'll be sure to post the finished piece.

Thanks for checking in!

Very interesting quilt, Wonderful. I wouldn't have guessed that was a photo. I would love to see the original photo and hear the story of the quilt.

Good idea! Once I finish reinstalling everything onto my computer - after this system upgrade - I'll try to find the original photo and post more about this quilt. Thanks!

Jan,
Love your piece. PSE offers so many opportunities. Mine incorporated a tree that I had extracted from its background in PSE and then made a screen from and printed with paint on fiber. Too much fun.

Elaine,

Thanks for your kind words - I haven't played with the extraction feature yet, but I've seen it demoed. I'm looking forward to playing with it, too!
